Almighty God is the Creator and Preserver of the heavens and earth (Nehemiah 9:6). He is absolutely sovereign over all, eternal, incorruptible, and the only wise God ( I Timothy 1:17). His name is YHWH (Yahweh): who is “merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth” (Exodus 34:6). He is also the God of judgement. He alone is to be the object of worship deserving glory, honor, and complete undivided devotion. He commands monotheism and condemns polytheism. “Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might” (Deuteronomy 6:4 and 5).
