The new laws have relaxed laws on the transportation of other types of firearms, but there is a difference between handgun laws and other types of firearms. As of November 19, 2011, long guns such as rifles, shotguns and muzzle-loading weapons no longer need to be in a suitcase to be placed in or on a vehicle or transported unloaded in or onto a vehicle. A loaded firearm other than a handgun may only be placed or possessed on the top or outside of a stationary vehicle. In addition, it is important to note that, unlike handguns, it remains illegal to load long guns (rifles, shotguns and magazines through the mouth) while the firearm or the person loading them is still in the vehicle. All long guns must be outside a motor vehicle before a person can load the firearm. Once loaded, a long gun may be placed on a stationary vehicle, but must be unloaded before being placed or transported in or on the vehicle. Long guns must also be unloaded before they can be placed, possessed or transported in a motorboat while the engine is running. Regulations for the fishing and wolf hunting season are published as separate documents and are available in print and on the MNR website. As in previous years, the Hunting Regulations booklet summarizes Wisconsin`s hunting laws that are most relevant to hunters. Other hunting and trapping laws can be found in the laws of the State of Wisconsin, Chapter 29 or Chapter 10 of the DNR Administrative Code.

A person must be at least 21 years of age to purchase a firearm that is a handgun from a dealer and 18 years of age to possess or hunt a firearm that is a handgun. The species that can be hunted with small arms and the minimum requirements for calibre and barrel length have not changed. Bait and feeding: Check the bait and feeding regulations page frequently to find out if your county allows deer baiting and feeding. A processor or taxidermist who receives a deer carcass must be informed that the deer was harvested in the CWD-affected area. Planning your fall hunting trip also means your gear is working properly. Firearms should be cleaned and inspected closely for signs of mechanical wear that could cause a problem in the field. For detailed information, including county listings and metro subunit maps, see the 2022 Metro Subunit Guide [PDF]. Have restrictions on the possession of a loaded or unpackaged firearm changed on MNR-owned properties in counties or MNR properties where it is not legal to possess a loaded firearm without a dwelling unless it is hunting legally, unless it is in a specific area or in a licensed dog trial or training? It is illegal to kill game for another person, except during a gun season when a member of a deer hunting group can kill a deer for another member of the group.

However, a junior antlerless deer licence issued to persons under 17 years of age may be completed only by the person to whom the licence is issued. Group hunting is not legal for people who hunt with bows and crossbows. All participants must be licensed and each must have a firearm. Members of a deer hunting group should also agree in advance that a cultivation licence holder is willing to use their authorization number to register a deer killed by another member of the group. For recommendations on how to handle deer safely, check out dnr.wi.gov and search for “corpse movement.” MNR and partner organizations offer a variety of ways to enjoy deer hunting season: Firearms aren`t the only items that need to be checked well in advance of a hunting trip. Clothing and other equipment should also be checked for signs of use. Anything that could put you at risk for safety needs to be repaired, disposed of or replaced. Flamboyant orange clothing that has faded over time, a jacket that doesn`t fit properly, or a scope that doesn`t fit properly can put your safety and the safety of others at risk. T = Treat each firearm as if it were loaded. Never assume that a firearm is unloaded and never treat it that way, even if you are watching it being unloaded.

Get into the habit of treating weapons as if they were loaded all the time. Dates and hours: View seasonal dates and shooting times. A deer permit and sponsor are required. As of November 1, 2011, a person with a concealed carrying permit may possess a loaded and unpacked handgun (hidden or discovered), and a qualified former law enforcement officer may possess the type of firearm they qualified and indicated on their certification card, loaded and unpackaged (hidden or concealed) in a nature reserve. However, this exception does not allow these individuals to hunt or discharge their firearms in the shelter. Have your deer hunting authorization number handy, which you can enter at the beginning of the registration process. The DNR divides the state into four deer management zones (DMZs) based on habitat type: northern forest, central forest, central farmland, and southern farmland.

In each DMZ, the department manages deer through Deer Management Units (DMUs), which typically follow county boundaries. Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a degenerative disease of the brain and nerve tissue that infects white-tailed deer and other deer. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources began monitoring the state`s wild white-tailed deer for CWD in 1999. The first positive results were obtained in 2002 during trials on deer shot by hunters in November 2001. While it is not necessary to test a deer shot, hunters are encouraged to learn about CWD in Wisconsin and keep abreast of mandatory bait and feeding restrictions. Antlerless Deer Licence (Zone 2) One to four additional antlerless hunting licences (Zone 2) [PDF] will be taken with each deer hunting licence in 2022, depending on the unit selected. Hunters can also apply for a free antlerless deer hunting permit or purchase a antlerless deer harvesting permit. These options are only available in certain counties. Wisconsin`s DNR Hunt Wild app includes maps with carcass disposal points and CWD sampling points, as well as maps of public property, online regulations, access to GameReg, and filming times tailored to your location. Download it today by visiting dnr.wi.gov and searching for “Hunt App”. These timber-free harvesting permits can be filled with any type of weapon during the corresponding season. They must be completed in the zone, unit and type of land (public or private) indicated in each harvest permit.

Enhanced first-come, first-served harvest permits are available for $12 each for residents, $20 each for non-residents and $5 for young hunters under 12 years of age. Save time by using the online DAC form. A link to the form can be found in your registration confirmation email or in your Go Wild harvest history. Odors that are only used to attract deer by smell can be used throughout the country for deer hunting, but the odor should not be placed or deposited in such a way as to be accessible to deer for consumption. Odors must be removed daily at the end of filming, except that two ounces or less of odor do not need to be removed daily and can be placed, used or deposited in any way to hunt deer. Register your deer via GameReg until 5pm the day after recovery. All registrations are done electronically. For more information about hunting in Wisconsin, visit the DNR Hunting website. How will the CCAC`s new legislative amendments affect me as a hunter, trapper, recreational vehicle driver or MNR land user? The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today that the 2021 Wisconsin Hunting Regulations Combined Brochure is now available online and will soon be available from licensing agents and open service centers across the state. Hunting with material deposited from natural vegetation, material found only as a result of normal agricultural or horticultural practices, or with the help of crops planted and left standing in the form of wild forage plots is legal.

It is illegal to establish or maintain plots or food plantations on land owned or managed by DNR. Prions are concentrated in certain tissues, such as the brain, spinal cord, lymph nodes and spleen, and are present in lower concentrations in other tissues, such as muscles. Prions can also survive cooking temperatures. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says no cases of CWD infection in humans have been reported so far.
